Super League side set for “almighty battle” over star player

Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, St Helens, Hull FC and Leigh Leopards stars have all been linked with huge NRL moves.

We have seen Leeds duo, whilst the club have been linked with NRL and former Huddersfield Giants star Danny Levi, Blake Austin and Aidan Sezer linked with NRL moves and it seems Sezer will head down under whilst Austin could stay in the UK.

Meanwhile, Wigan will lose Kai Pearce-Paul to Newcastle Knights alongside Will Pryce in 2024.

Warrington were proactive and gave a new deal to George Williams to fend off interest from the Wests Tigers whilst St Helens, as Super League and World Champions have been the club who has had the most players linked with big NRL moves such as Jack Welsby, Lewis Dodd and Sione Mata’utia.

But halfbacks have been where NRL clubs are focusing with Leigh’s Lachlan Lam a target alongside Jake Clifford at Hull FC which is the same for Salford Red Devils star and reigning Man of Steel Brodie Croft.

The stand-off was unplayable late into the 2022 Super League season.

He guided the Red Devils to the play-offs from an unlikely position tearing teams apart with his running game.

The stand-off won the Man of Steel as consequence and took Salford all the way to the semi-finals.

However a head injury ruled him out of the clash against St Helens and he could have been the difference in what was a disappointing day for the club.

The club were proactive about his future signing him to a huge eight year deal but that hasn’t stopped NRL club Wests Tigers from having an interest in the star stand-off with the Daily Telegraph reporting that he is now a potential target for the club.

Now the same publication have suggested Benji Marshall and the Tigers would be prepared to fight for his signature.

In fact Fox League have said the clubs are set for “an almighty battle” for Croft.

The Tigers have lost Luke Brooks to Manly Sea Eagles in 2024 after he was linked with a move to Leeds Rhinos.

They have considered moves for Clifford and Jack Cogger as well.
