Championship outfit Barrow Raiders have signed a Super League forward on a season-long loan deal for the 2025 campaign.
Barrow will be hoping for an improved 2025 season after being sucked into a relegation battle in 2024 – narrowly escaping by just one point, something that Cumbrian rivals Whitehaven could not escape.
Paul Crarey’s side confirmed their squad numbers for 2025 recently with the club boasting former Super League winner Aaron Smith in their ranks. Smith was part of the Saints side that won the Grand Final in 2019.
Barrow have now confirmed the signing of another former Saints player as they have announced a season-long loan deal for Salford Red Devils prop Jamie Pye.
Pye trained with Salford all through 2024 before signing a professional contract for the 2025 season in July. He would make just one appearance in Super League for the Red Devils but represented Barrow six times and he will now return to the Championship side for 2025.
Barrow Raiders secure Super League forward on loan deal
Both clubs confirmed the deal with Salford Red Devils taking to social media to announce the deal.
They stated: “After spending the pre-Christmas period with the Salford squad, Pye will now head to Cumbria and spend the rest of 2025 with his Raiders’ teammates.
“It’s a place where Pye spent a short spell on loan last season, scoring his first senior try against French outfit, Toulouse Olympique, crashing onto a short ball.
“Returning to Craven Park will allow the youngster to enjoy regular game time in a competitive environment, as Barrow look to attack another Betfred Championship campaign.”
Barrow announced: “Barrow Raiders have signed Salford Red Devils front-rower Jamie Pye on a season-long loan.
“Pye’s loan deal comes in the wake of the new dual-registration partnership between both clubs, which was recently announced ahead of the 2025 season.
“Pye will be eligible to play and train with both clubs, but is restricted to play in one fixture per scheduled round of games in any given week.
“The Red Devils will have the option to recall the highly-rated prop at any point after the first two weeks of the loan.”
Pye was part of the St Helens Academy team that reached the 2019 Grand Final but joined Salford’s Reserves by way of Oldham.
Speaking on his deal, he said: “I’m grateful to be back at Barrow. When the chance to return for the season came, I couldn’t say no.
“I wanted to come back to gain even more valuable experience that can put me in good stead for my return to Salford and the rest of my career.”
