One Super League owner has ruled his side out of heading to Las Vegas in 2026 despite the major success the event has had.
The entire weekend has been seen as a roaring success as fans flocked to Sin City to watch superstars from Super League, the NRL and from across the women’s game.
Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves won’t be returning to Vegas in 2026, which leaves the door open to the other ten Super League clubs.
Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, Wakefield Trinity owner Ellis has decided that Wakefield would love to participate in the extravaganza but doesn’t feel that they’re quite ready for the occasion.
He said: “We’d love to do it, but we probably won’t do it straight away because we’re on a journey and I want the club to get into Challenge Cup finals, into the top four and be pushing for Grand Finals.
“I think the teams that go should be at that level. Hopefully this year we can take a step towards that, and then who knows?”
He didn’t rule them out completely but admitted it’s some time before he feels that Wakefield will be ready for the big stage.
He added: “I don’t think it’ll be next year, but in 2027/2028, it’d be interesting to see if we can do it.”
Wakefield Trinity owner Ellis wants the club to be able to compete on the biggest of stages but knows that they need to work on increasing their fanbase and home attendance first.
He finished: “We need to grow the support to get over to Vegas because obviously, we need to be taking a lot of fans over there.
“It’d be great for the club to do it, but I think you’ve got to go as a top-four club, that’s my opinion.”
The rest of Super League are already putting proposals forward for a trip to Vegas in 2026.
