Super League side respond to stadium purchase attempt

Salford Red Devils have made a statement regarding the ongoing situation surrounding their stadium, the AJ Bell.

The AJ Bell stadium had been subject to a joint vid by Salford City Football Club and Sale Sharks who intended to purchase and use it as a joint venture,

The news earlier today came that Salford City Council had purchased the stadium outright which put a halt to those plans but left the Red Devils with questions.

They have now posted the following statement to their website.

“Salford Red Devils are aware of the council’s intention to purchase the stadium outright.

“We are currently in dialogue to secure a long-term tenure that will present the club with the opportunity to increase match day controls and the associated incomes streams to ensure the long-term sustainability of the club.”

The club had tweeted the news of their announcement following uncertainty after it was confirmed that the Salford City Council purchased the stadium outright.

Earlier today Salford City FC had posted on their website that they had failed in their attempt to purchase the stadium by sharing the following statement on their site.

“We would like to provide an update on our proposed move to the AJ Bell Stadium.

“As supporters are all aware we have been in talks with Salford City Council for 18 months to purchase the AJ Bell Stadium.

“However, we were informed in the last two weeks by Salford City Council that they will now purchase the Stadium outright and that we wouldn’t be considered.

“Whilst this news came as a surprise to us, we will continue to monitor closely the progression of the purchase, but at this moment our immediate future is to remain at The Peninsula Stadium.

“There will be no further comment from the Club.”
