Super League side lose star signing for two months

Wakefield Trinity have been doing it hard enough this season but have suffered another injury blow.

Mark Applegarth confirmed that they have lost star signing Samisoni Langi for the next two months with an eight week layoff.

“We’ve got a couple back and a couple more out. Samisoni Langi is out for about eight weeks after that Hull game,” he said on BBC Radio Leeds.

“He got a bit of a ATFL injury off the back of a tackle in that game.”

He also gave a further update on others:

“Reece Lyne all being well should be just after magic weekend.

“Jai’s groin is still not right, it had tightened up so we rested him for the cup game. We’ll send him for a scan but hope it’s not too bad, maybe two to three weeks.

“Lee Gaskell has dislocated his thumb in that cup game vs Leigh and he’s also got a bit of a hamstring injury from the same game.

“It’s the same for every squad at this time of year so you’ve just got to deal with the blows.”

He also confirmed that Luke Gale is likely to make his debut:

“Hopefully. He’s in the squad, he’s trained and we’re just making sure that he’s A-okay. We’ll do some final checks tomorrow and as long as he passes them then Luke Gale will be fit and available.

“He’s been a massive help in giving us direction and freeing up other players.

“We’ve trained all week with Max, Mason and Gale and it’s looked real sharp.

“I feel a bit for Morgan Smith and I had to have an honest chat with him but if Luke for whatever reason can’t play then I’ve got full faith in Morgan given how he’s been playing.

“There’s two players at opposite ends of the spectrum there, Luke obviously is coming towards the end of his career and that transition and Morgan coming into his prime years.”
