Super League side cut short loan deal with Swinton Lions amidst vile allegations

Swinton Lions

Former Leeds Rhinos playmaker Kai Morgan has been recalled early from his two-week loan at Swinton Lions amidst vile allegations regarding the Championship club.

Morgan linked up with Salford Red Devils for the 2024 season and Paul Rowley’s side had sent Morgan on a two-week loan deal that should have seen Morgan play for the Championship side this weekend.

However, it was announced yesterday by the Red Devils that they had recalled Morgan from the loan deal at Swinton Liones, cutting it short of the approved agreement. Had Salford recalled the youngster 24 hours earlier then they would have been able to name him in their Super League squad to face Catalans.

Instead, Morgan has now been named in the club’s reserve side alongside new signing Jamie Pye who committed to a full-time contract earlier this week after the Red Devils acquired him from St Helens earlier this year.

Salford’s brief statement confirming Morgan’s return from Swinton Lions made no reference to the allegations that the Championship club faces, something that makes sense given the RFL have confirmed that they are investigating.

The brief statement regarding the former Leeds Rhinos playmaker can be read here on the club’s website.

Several fans from Super League clubs, namely St Helens as they have a dual registration partnership, had called for ties with Swinton Lions to be cut.

That came after the allegation by Widnes Vikings forward Nick Gregson that Swinton Lions players had been instructed to deliberately wound the 28-year-old, something that resulted in him incurring an injury that could see him out for the remainder of the season.

Gregson also shared an image of a headshot of himself captioned “Bully Him” with a noose photoshopped around his neck prompting outrage from fans.

Widnes Vikings immediately supported their player and confirmed that they had triggered an RFL investigation. Shortly after Swinton Lions responded to “refute the accuracy” of the allegations.

That statement was later deleted with an amended version confirming full compliance with the RFL and an internal investigation being sanctioned.

Swinton Lions won that game against Widnes Vikings and they now face Sheffield Eagles on the road tomorrow.
