Super League side confirm amazing away following for huge fixture

Castleford Tigers fans at Wheldon Road

The Super League season is at a fascinating point with Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC, Hull KR and Salford Red Devils fighting for a place in the play-offs and Wigan Warriors, Leigh Leopards and St Helens chasing Catalans Dragons at the Super League summit.

But the most interesting battle might be at the bottom with Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity battling to survive.

Castleford’s wins over Leeds and their triumph over Wakefield at Easter gave them a six point lead which seemed to condemn Wakefield until they shocked Leeds.

That boost was undone however by a shock Warrington Wolves defeat to Cas who re-established their six point lead.

But Wakefield reacted in kind with back to back wins of their own.

This, alongside signings like Josh Griffin from Hull FC created the narrative that Cas are seen as the side struggling. But the mood might be changing as of late.

Castleford have announce the loan signings of Billy Tsikrikas and Alex Foster on loan until the end of the 2023 Super League season.

On these new signings, coach Andy Last said: “Billy has been playing for the Bulldogs NSW team and playing big minutes due to the big engine he has.

“I spoke with Mark O’Meley a former front rower who I coached and has been coaching Billy who spoke highly of him regards his attitude and his effort areas during games.

“Billy has an opportunity to show us what he is capable of during these latter stages of the season.

“Alex is a player with good experience of Super League and Castleford Tigers and represented this club with great distinction in his first stint here.

“He’s a team-first player and a strong character which are all qualities I was looking for as we attack the latter stages of the season. After speaking with him he can’t wait to get started and work hard to take this opportunity.”

The signings might not end there either with the club teasing a third recruit as well.

Thus, there is a far more positive feeling among the fans and that is translating to ticket sales with only a few tickets remaining for their trip to Wakefield which is already shaping up as a relegation Grand Final like in 2006.

That day Belle Vue was packed but Cas came up short, this time a traveling army of black and amber will be hoping to inspire their side to victory with their allocation nearly sold out.
