Super League set for another Love Island comeback story

Leigh Leopards' Keanan Brand is about to kick the ball at Stade Gilbert Brutus

Tonight Adrian Lam’s Leigh Leopards take on the Leeds Rhinos in a big game for both team’s play-off ambitions.

Speaking on the Leopards’ YouTube channel, Lam gave an update on the fitness of his squad:

“John Asiata had a little bit of a stinger so a shoulder or neck contact injury from the game but other than that it’s the normal ones.

“Joe Wardle is out long term, Jack Hughes out long term and Ben Nakubuwai is probably two weeks away from playing yet.”

In a week that has seen Jacques O’Neill return to the sport from Love Island it seems another Love Island contestant isn’t far away in Keanan Brand:

“He’s flying at the moment. Once he’d finished the show with Love Island, coming back into training it was important that he built a six-week block or load on everything he missed whilst he was away.

“He’s getting close to being in consideration now. Aaron Smith’s also back from a foot injury that he had a couple of weeks ago, also cleared is Tom Nisbet after his HIA but the squads pretty much the same as last week.”

Lam also gave his view on the Rhinos:

“They’ve been up and down at the start but I think they’ve found a little bit of form in the last couple of weeks. When you look through their team they’ve certainly got some talent right across the board.

“They’ll be coming here as a confident side and I guess it’s a real 50/50 games for both teams. We’re looking to continue the winning streak but for me it’s more about growth as a team and delivering an 80 minute performance.

“We haven’t quite had one yet this year so that’s a challenge.

“They had an up and down start and they had a few players injured at the start of the season, a few buys and a few rotations to come through so I think they’re starting to find their feet.

“When they play well they’re a team that can beat anyone. They’ll come here as a confident side with a couple of wins up their sleeve.

“I think they’ve got some great individuals within that group so it’ll be a tough challenge for us, but one we’re looking forward to.”
