Super League semi-final set to host Prime Minister

French Prime Minister Jean Castex has been invited to the Stade Gilbert Brutus to witness Catalans Dragons’ semi-final play-off game next Thursday night.

Catalans President Bernard Guasch has sent the feelers out to Castex, who lives locally, to visit a carnival atmosphere at the Brutus as the Dragons face the prospect of making their first Super League Grand Final.

It’s been a record-breaking year for the French club as they finished top of the table for the first time in their history, with an incredible 31-30 comeback against St Helens at Newcastle’s St James’ Park for the Magic Weekend epitomising the never-say-die attitude of the Catalans side.

Though their contenders for the semi-final are not yet known, the Dragons have been in preparation for one of the most important games in French rugby league.

The 2018 Challenge Cup winners have propelled themselves to the most consistent side in Super League in 2021 under Steve McNamara and now it looks as though they will have political backing.
