Super League round 23 attendances as Leeds v Leigh tops charts with one other five-figure crowd recorded

As expected, Leeds Rhinos were comfortable leaders in this week’s attendance rankings, being the only club to attract over 15,000 fans.

The Rhinos, who hosted a somewhat controversial ‘festive takeover’ pre-match, despite it being mid-August, had The Grinch, Elsa and Anna parading the pitch before youngsters got the chance to partake in a ‘snowball fight’.

Enough about that though, Leeds would succumb to their first home defeat of the season, as an on-form Leigh side marched into Headingley and put in one of their best defensive performances in Adrian Lam’s career at the helm to topple the league leaders.

With fixtures needing to be rearranged due to Hull KR v Warrington on Tuesday, it meant that there were three games on Thursday night, with Hull KR, who don’t announce their attendances, taking on Catalans Dragons and emerging as comfortable winners despite a poor second-half.

At the same time, Warrington Wolves welcomed back George Williams for the first time since March from a neck injury, but it would be half-back partner Ewan Irwin that again stole the show in that game with a try and five conversions.

On Saturday, St Helens stunned Wakefield Trinity with an incredible second-half effort, scoring 34 unanswered points to take what could be a season-saving victory.

Wigan Warriors, who topped last week’s attendance charts, travelled to Bradford Bulls for the first time in over a decade, and won 34-6 thanks to help from a Jake Wardle brace.

Huddersfield Giants earned their fourth win in a row with a victory over Toulouse Olympique. The result now means they have moved off bottom spot for the first time this season, as they climbed above Bradford on points difference.
