Super League round 11 attendances as Wigan Warriors v Leeds Rhinos comfortably takes top spot

The attendances for round 11 of Super League are in, with one fixture comfortably leading the way compared to the rest.

Following a week away due to the Challenge Cup, the regular season returned, starting with Huddersfield Giants and their home tie against St Helens.

Saints, who had been knocked out of the Cup the week prior, went into the game needing a response, and whilst they did that in the first half, the second 40 was much more unconvincing. However, they still got the win and did so in front of a crowd of 3,624, their second-lowest home league attendance of the year so far.

Moving on to Friday, Wakefield Trinity came from 10 points down to defeat Catalans Dragons 58-10. Caius Faatili scored a hat-trick, whilst Will Tate bagged two of his own. A crowd of 8,532, almost all of whom were Trinity supporters, watched Daryl Powell’s side put on a second-half masterclass.

At the same time, Wigan Warriors downed Leeds Rhinos in a 24-4 victory. Leeds were kept scoreless for over an hour before Maika Sivo bagged his 18th of the season. This game drew in the biggest crowd, with a total of 14,627 fans watching Matt Peet’s side take the win.

In the first of a triple-header on Saturday, York Knights came up short against Castleford Tigers. Mark Applegarth’s side suffered several injury blows, whilst the Tigers gained their fourth win of the season. The attendance for that game has not yet been confirmed.

Toulouse Olympique hosted Warrington Wolves over in France, but a poor first-half from Sylvain Houles’ side gave them too much work to do in the second 40, and despite pulling back 16 points, they would lose out 24-16 in front of 4,634 fans.

Hull KR downed Leigh Leopards in the third and final game of the day. After being 20-6 behind at the break, Adrian Lam’s side couldn’t mount a full comeback, but did reduce the deficit to four whilst keeping KR scoreless for the entire second 40. In what was Leigh’s biggest home crowd since round one, 9,028 fans were at the LSV to watch that one.

The final game of the weekend saw Bradford Bulls host Hull FC at Odsal. In a game that saw just the second red card of the season, Yusuf Aydin was given his marching orders after a dangerous tackle on Caleb Aekins. That would leave FC down to 12 for around half an hour, and it would come to cost them, as a crowd of 7,815 witnessed Bradford win their first game in six matches.
