Super League reserves clash abandoned after worrying injury

Wigan Warriors’ and Leeds Rhinos’ reserves meeting has had to be abandoned sadly.

The game kicked off at 5:30 at Robin Park in Wigan ahead of a meeting between the two in Super League.

However, the reserves game has been abandoned due to an injury for the Rhinos.

It is unclear who the player involved is but an injury of this nature is certainly worrying.

Luis Roberts, a recent signing for the Rhinos, scored just before the injury to make it 16-all.

Leeds and Wigan have both addressed the situations on social media.

Leeds said:

“Due to the on field injury the referee and captains have agreed to abandon the game.”

Wigan meanwhile said:

“Due to an injury to a Leeds player, the referees and captains have agreed to abandon this evening’s Reserves fixture. We wish the player well.”

Serious About Rugby League also sends our best wishes.

It has now been confirmed that it was former York RLFC youngster Toby Warren. He has been sent to hospital as a precaution but was in good spirits before he left.

The game saw plenty of Leeds first teamers involved including in demand forward Sam Walters, hooker Corey Johnson, who is also Leeds’ 18th man tonight, and Derrell Olpherts who returns from injury.

Leeds have a few injuries in the first team and this sees Ash Handley move to fullback and Richie Myler into the havles.
