We’ve reached the semi-finals of the Super League play-offs and Old Trafford is beginning to loom on the horizon.
It’s been an entertaining campaign and the play-offs haven’t disappointed so far with Leigh Leopards and Warrington Wolves progressing through hard fought and enthralling contests. As such, just four teams remain in this season’s competition with the winners of this week’s semi-finals set to take on each other in the Grand Final.
Friday’s play-off offering sees Hull KR host Warrington Wolves at Craven Park with both sides determined to seal their spot in the final game of the campaign. Warrington have never won a Grand Final, but they certainly know their way around the Theatre of Dreams having fallen short on four occasions.
KR, on the other hand, are vying to reach the showpiece event for the first time and given they were playing in the Championship just a few seasons ago, just booking their spot in the final would be some achievement.
The same can be said for Leigh Leopards, who travel to Wigan Warriors on Saturday to take on the Super League League Leaders’ Shield winners. Leigh are coming to the end of their second season back in their top flight and to find themselves in this position just underlines how rapid their ascent has been in recent years.
Wigan are the favourites to go the distance, though, and Matt Peet’s side will be flying high in confidence given the remarkable way they brought their season to an end.
The referee appointments for both games have now been confirmed, with Liam Moore and Chris Kendall set to be the two officials in the middle of the park. Moore has been chosen to officiate Friday’s fixture in east Hull with Jack Smith on video referee duties.
Kendall, on the other hand, will be in action on Saturday night, with the support of video ref Tom Grant.
