The 2024 Super League season has been one of the most exciting to date. Throughout the entire season, the unpredictability of the league and the tightly contested league table has made it a fascinating watch at times. Hull KR have been the surprise package of the 2024 campaign, with Willie Peters guiding the Robins towards a top-two finish as they continue to defy the odds and exceed expectations.
No doubt, the campaign’s biggest disappointment has been Rovers’ city rivals Hull FC. The Black & Whites have the IMG system to thank for avoiding a titanic relegation fight with London Broncos. The team from the capital have surprised many and have been competitive in most games this season, beating Hull twice.
Champions Wigan Warriors have remained as consistent as ever, while Sam Burgess has enjoyed an impressive start to his coaching career at Warrington Wolves. Salford Red Devils have again surprised people to be in the running, while Leigh Leopards overcame a poor start to the season to come back into contention after a superb run.
Other than Hull FC, it has been a poor season for several other big clubs in the regular season. St Helens have struggled for consistency, especially in the second half of the campaign, with Leeds Rhinos again failing to live up to the hype despite a mid-season coaching change.
Catalans Dragons have suffered a major drop-off following last season’s appearance in the Grand Final. Huddersfield Giants have also struggled as Ian Watson lost his job after a woeful run of results. For Castleford Tigers and Craig Lingard, it has been a season of progress, albeit they have been small steps after a mid-season resurgence saw them pull away from London and Hull at the bottom.
