Super League ticket debate starts amid Leigh Leopards’ price hike and Dublin game two details

Super League fans who are not members of a club will have to pay £40 to watch Leigh Leopards games in 2027, whilst those hoping to attend the two matches in Dublin will also have to pay at least £40 for a ticket.

The cost of living crisis is impacting everything and rugby league fans are no exception to that, as has been confirmed with the price reveals for Leigh Leopards games in 2027.

Club owner Derek Beaumont has spoken in depth about ticketing in a video shared to the club’s YouTube channel, announcing that for fans who are not members of either Leigh or another Super League club will pay £40 to watch games at the Leopards’ Den next year.

That’s a price hike from £30 but Beaumont has made the case that it is worth it, arguing Leigh offer much more than a game of Super League, with their ‘greatest show’ part of that justification.

It’s also worth noting that ticket details for the second Dublin game, the clash between St Helens and Hull FC, has been confirmed with fans attending paying either £40 or £45, the higher fee being for those who are not members. That’s the same price point as the Wigan and Warrington game, meaning that any neutral fans planning on making the trip would have to pay £90 for two games across two days. For context, two-day Magic Weekend tickets, which showcased six games, were available at around the price of just one Dublin ticket.

Obviously, Dublin is a one-off experience but that pricing and Leigh’s planned pricing begs the question of if fans are being priced out of watching live Super League.

Leigh Leopards owner explains ‘significant leap’ in ticket prices

Speaking in the video uploaded to Leigh’s YouTube, Beaumont explained that one reason why ticket prices are going up is to incentivise fans to become members, where tickets remain more affordable.

Single match-day tickets have jumped from £30 to £40, if you are not a member, but lower tier members will see it only rise to £35. Similarly, members of other Super League clubs will pay £35, instead of £40.

Beaumont explained: “There’s more emphasis and importance on being a member. My aim is to have that stadium, or the three sides of it, as members only like we did in the North Stand, we got it to that point. The South Stand is then one half for away fans and the other half is for casual walk-up fans.

“The price for single entry will change from £30 to £40. That’s a significant leap, I accept that, but it makes the membership even more attractive. Red card members will be able to get the individual tickets at £35 instead of £40 because they’re a member.”

Beaumont accepted: “Clearly the issue with that would be away fans – and that’s dealt with where by anyone who is a member or a season ticket holder of another club can buy their ticket at the discounted price of £35.

“At £30, we weren’t the dearest club anyway; there’s seated places in stadiums at £32 and £33. It’s more than a game of rugby, it’s a show, it’s an entertaining night out – and £40 for that is great.”

Concluding, he said: “In other words, be part of our ‘Famileigh’ and the increase isn’t to £40. If you want to just rock up with no real involvement in the club or buy-in then the price you pay will be £40.”

Memberships for Leigh in 2027 are not currently available to purchase but prices are expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

£40 who are you to refuse? Leigh are looking like going backwards as a team unless they get some really good recruitment done. Would you pay extra to watch a team in decline? Hope post Chris Chester they get it right because no-one in their right mind pays more for less.

    Just THREE questions :-
    Am I made of money?
Why should I pay more for less?
    Am I stupid?
