The start of the Super League season is now just around the corner and it won’t be long until the competitive action is upon us. Before top flight teams can consider themselves ready for the rigours of a Super League campaign, though, they will be keen to test themselves in a friendly match.
Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity have already been in action and if it wasn’t for adverse weather conditions, Castleford Tigers, Warrington Wolves and Hull FC would have played by this stage, too.
However, over the next three weeks, all 12 Super League clubs will be in pre-season trial action. Some will be heading overseas with Hull KR taking on York Knights in Amsterdam and Castleford Tigers facing Valencia Huracanes in Spain as part of the warm weather training camp they are currently on.
Castleford will be one of five top flight sides in action this weekend, with Warrington Wolves hosting Widnes Vikings, Salford Red Devils going to Barrow Raiders, Wigan Warriors facing Oldham and Huddersfield Giants testing themselves against Bradford Bulls. The matches will start to come thick and fast after this weekend, too, with the friendlies leading into the third round of the Challenge Cup.
As rugby league fans prepare to welcome the new season in with open arms, we take a look at the pre-season schedule.
