Super League players pick their 2025 Man of Steel with one man leading the way

Super League Man of Steel

We’re approaching awards season in Super League and we know the 2025 Man of Steel will be one of three men.

Jake Connor, Mikey Lewis and Jai Field have made the shortlist to win the Man of Steel with their nominations coming towards the end of superb individual seasons.

Connor has been in exceptional form for Leeds Rhinos, leading Brad Arthur’s side push up the Super League table.

Lewis’ Hull KR won the League Leaders’ Shield this year and are now just two wins away from an historic treble, with the half-back’s form being at the heart of their success.

Field on the other hand has scored 24 Super League tries this year, and could yet be a part of Wigan Warriors side that wins the Grand Final for the third year in a row.

Indeed, all three men have been tremendous and they rightly claimed a spot in the Super League Dream Team earlier in this week.

Serious About RL attended the Dream Team media event at Elland Road on Monday afternoon and we asked a handful of players the same questions: Who should the Man of Steel be and why?

Here’s what they said with one man being mentioned by the five players we spoke to.

Serious About Rugby League has launched a brand new podcast which can be watched in full on our YouTube channel here.

Super League players pick their Man of Steel

Herman Ese’ese: “I’d probably have to back Jake Connor. I think he’s been really consistent throughout the whole season and he’s been a really influential player for Leeds. They’ve probably missed him in the last few games but I think he’s really helped them push for that play-off spot. He’s a great player and I’d be surprised if he doesn’t get it.”

Jez Litten: “There’s a few players. Jake has had a real consistent year at Leeds and it’s good to see him have that. I used to play with Jake in our FC days and it’s good to see where he is now. It seems like he’s settled and matured and he’s had a great year. Mikey has had a great year as well. There’s a handful of players who have done well and it’s hard to pick. I’m a forward and I see forward’s tough stuff like Dean Hadley and that and then you see the flair of Jake, Mikey and Jai Field, there’s a few boys.”

Lewis Martin: “Probably Jake. I think he’s had a really good and got that Leeds team around the park, especially with his kicking game. He’s got a bit of flair as well. He’s had an outstanding year and I think he’ll get it.”

Dean Hadley: “I think there’s standouts right across. For us Mikey has had a great year, but looking at other teams Jake Connor has had a great year and taken control of that Leeds team. At Wigan, people like Bevan French and Jai Field are top quality players and make them tick.”

Morgan Knowles: “It’s probably going to be Jake Connor, I would have thought. It’s judged off the points throughout the year and he was leading that when it closed and his form has continued so I’d imagine he’s still top of that table.”

Love how Hadley and Litten are all like dancing around the subject, whereas Ese’ese, Martin and Knowles just said Jake Connor. Hadley and Litten clearly think it’ll be Connor or Field, but don’t want to say it.
