Super League players key to determining England star’s NRL future

Newcastle Knights have turned a lot to English talent in their recent recruitment.

They have signed Huddersfield Giants star Will Pryce and Wigan Warriors man Kai Pearce-Paul for 2024.

Former Salford Red Devils star and Great Britain international Jackson Hastings has been brought to the club for this season.

They have Castleford Tigers fullback Bailey Hodgson and of course England’s World Cup star Dom Young who scored nine tries in five games during the tournament for England, Dom Young.

Formerly of Huddersfield, he was impressive in the NRL in 2022 but there are questions over his future with him entering the final year of his contract and with plenty of NRL clubs chasing them.

Now Young’s manager, Michael Cincotta has told the Newcastle Herald that the English players at the club are key to keeping him and that Young was likely key to their arrival.

“That has to come into the equation. They’re coming because Dom is there, so that’s got to have some weighting,” Cincotta said.

“But they’ve also seen what Dom has been able to do from afar and are keen to replicate that themselves.

“I know that those guys are keen to get there because of Dom, so I guess they’re probably interested in playing with Dom.”

“We’d like to get things done sooner rather than later, just so Dom’s clear and can focus even more.

“It’s not something we want to rush but ideally we’d like to get it done as soon as possible.”
