Super League play-offs officials confirmed as one referee lands first-ever post-season game

The referees for this week’s Super League play-off eliminators have been confirmed with one of the competition’s most senior officials picking up a game, whilst the other referee is set for his first ever play-off match.

Wakefield Trinity will host Leigh Leopards on Friday night before Warrington Wolves welcome Hull KR on Saturday evening, with the victors set to progress to meet either Wigan Warriors or Leeds Rhinos in the semi-finals.

The lowest-ranked winners will head to face Wigan a week on Saturday, whereas the highest-ranked victors travel to Headingley next Friday night, meaning that Hull KR cannot go to Leeds and that Warrington cannot go to Wigan.

As for this week’s games, the match officials have now been confirmed and it’s no surprise to see two of the most experienced officials in Super League take one game apiece.

Chris Kendall will officiate at the DIY Kitchens Stadium on Friday night, supported by Liam Rush as the video referee.

As for Saturday’s game at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, that will be overseen by Aaron Moore with Jack Smith the man selected to be the video referee. The game will serve as the first Super League play-off match that Aaron Moore has officiated in

It means there is no game for Aaron’s brother, Liam, who has established himself as one of the very best officials in Super League, taking charge of four of the last five Grand Finals. The other man to officiate at Old Trafford in recent years has been Friday night’s official Chris Kendall, with every Grand Final since 2018 being refereed by either Kendall or Liam Moore.
