The final standings in the Super League play-off race will be confirmed tonight [Friday] but the play-off dates have already been confirmed, including when Wigan Warriors will play their semi-final.
So far, Matt Peet’s side are the only side to mathematically confirm their place in the Super League semi-finals with the Warriors two points clear of Leeds Rhinos in second and four points clear of Warrington in third.
They will also win the League Leaders Shield tonight if they match or better Leeds Rhinos’ result, with Leeds still a chance at finishing first, though Brad Arthur’s side can mathematically still finish third, despite how unlikely it is.
Warrington would have to win and hope the Rhinos lose and cede a 135-point advantage in points difference for the Rhinos to slip to third, something that whilst unlikely, is not impossible.
As such, only Wigan can be confirmed to the semi-finals at this stage and it’s been announced that they will play on Saturday, 26th September at 5:30 pm. That means the team who finish second, almost certainly Leeds, will host their semi-final opponents on Friday, 25th September at 8:00 pm.
Tonight will also confirm who plays who in the first round of the play-offs with fourth set to host fifth on Friday, 18th September at 8:00 pm. Third will then host sixth on Saturday, 19th September at 5:30 pm.
We know which four sides will be contesting those games but we do not yet know the match-ups, with the current standings pitting Warrington Wolves against Hull KR on the Saturday and Wakefield Trinity against Leigh Leopards on the Friday, though both games could yet change.
