Recruitment continues to dominate the Super League agenda as clubs look to add to their side with the run-in and next season in mind. Deals are being announced on a regular basis ahead of 2025, with Hull KR’s capture of Michael McIlorum being the latest to hit the headlines.
However, clubs have until Friday, August 2, to make any short-term additions with clubs looking to bolster their ranks in order to get through the final 10 games of the campaign. With that in mind, here’s a round-up of the latest Super League transfer news.
NRL winger wanted
St George Illawarra Dragons winger Mikaele Ravalawa is on the radars of several Super League clubs, according to Yorkshire Live. The Fijian could be set to leave the Dragons with the club under salary cap pressure and the report claims the club would even be willing to contribute to his wages in order to get him off the books.
Ravalawa has been with the Dragons since 2019 and in that time he has racked up a remarkable number of tries with his record standing at 67 in 97 games. A total of 21 of those came last season, but he has been less prolific this time around with just five coming for the club.
However, he has the potential to be a huge coup should any team look to sign the winger.
Martin future becoming clear
Warrington Wolves and Leigh Leopards have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Rhyse Martin ahead of next season, per Warrington Guardian and Love Rugby League. Martin’s future at Leeds Rhinos has been uncertain with the back-rower entering the final months his contract.
However, while there has been interest from Warrington, Leigh and a handful of NRL clubs, it seems Martin could be set to stay with Leeds Rhinos, who are keen to keep hold of the 31-year-old. Martin has been with the Rhinos since 2019 and in 122 appearances for the club, he has dotted down on 34 occasions and kicked 401 goals.
Saints eyeing Naiqama return?
St Helens are reportedly keen on a deal to take Kevin Naiqama back to the Totally Wicked Stadium ahead of the Super League run-in. That’s according to League Express, who claim Saints see Huddersfield Giants Naiqama as the perfect addition to their backline, which is short on numbers heading into the final 10 games of the season.
The Fijian’s contract runs until the end of the campaign and at present, he looks set to leave the John Smith’s Stadium this autumn. However, he has played a key role for the Giants this season and would leave a big hole in the club’s starting XIII if he were to move on
Naiqama spent three years at Saints earlier in his career and won the Super League Grand Final three times.
