Following the conclusion of Super League Round 16, a heap of clubs have been dealt injury blows, and could be weakened in personnel ahead of Magic Weekend.
It was a pretty hectic week, with Warrington Wolves kicking the action off on Thursday with a win over Catalans. Fast forward to Sunday, and Wakefield Trinity claimed the victory in arguably the most entertaining game of the season so far, downing Huddersfield Giants 29-23.
In between those two games, there were wins for Leeds Rhinos, York Knights, Wigan Warriors, Leigh Leopards and St Helens, however some of those victors were dealt concerns, including Warrington, who are hoping that Arron Lindop’s knee issue is better than first thought.
Lindop was involved in a tackle with Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet, and re-injured the knee that has only just recovered from an ACL injury. Head coach Sam Burgess labelled the tackle “ugly”, and the incident was placed on report. Wire also had Jordy Crowther and Josh Thewlis suffer injuries.
Leeds defeated Hull KR in their annual MND game, but were without Jake Connor for the final 10 minutes. The reigning Man of Steel had a glute issue, but Brad Arthur said he will be fine to face Bradford this week.
The same can’t be said for Dean Hadley, who failed a HIA in the defeat. Tom Amone suffered a large cut on his face, forcing him to rep a Jon Wilkin-esque bandage across his face.
In York’s win over Castleford, back rower Harvey Reynolds suffered what looked to be an elbow issue and looked in severe pain.
Wigan forward duo Luke Thompson and Liam Farrell both left the field in the win over Hull FC. Thompson picked up an ankle injury, whilst Farrell had a wrist issue. Noah Hodkinson needed a HIA at the end of the game, and it is unclear whether he passed or not.
In the same game, FC’s Harvey Barron also needed a concussion assessment, which he failed, ruling him out of the Hull derby.
Bradford saw Will Gardiner stretchered off the field in their loss to Saints. The young forward was on the wrong end of a head clash and was taken to the hospital. He is now home, but will not play against Leeds this week.
To make matters worse, Kurt Haggerty also lost both Phoenix Steinwede (groin) and Dan Russell (ribs).
Lastly, Jay Pitts left the field in Trinity’s win. The veteran suffered an ankle injury, something he has been struggling with on and off for a number of years, per Daryl Powell.
