The five Super League teams to sell the most tickets for Magic Weekend have been revealed with a surprise team topping the sales.
Super League’s showpiece event returns to Newcastle this year with St James Park once again the destination for the two-day festival of rugby league.
The event was taken to Elland Road in 2024, a decision that was not very popular and fans showed that with their attendance as the event recorded the second-lowest attendance in its history.
In fact the Sunday was the lowest-ever crowd for a Magic Weekend day as well under 30,000 turned up in Leeds, something that made the decision to return to Newcastle a no-brainer.
Rhodri Jones, Managing Director of Rugby League Commercial, explained that stating: “The feedback from our fans regarding a return to the North East has been overwhelmingly positive.”
Super League will descend upon the North-East city earlier than usual with the games set to take place on the weekend of May 3rd and 4th as opposed to later in the month, as has previously been the case.
It was previously confirmed that over 20,000 tickets had been sold, a number that has since grown and it has now been revealed which sides have sold the most tickets so far with the top five teams confirmed.
Topping that list is Wakefield Trinity with their fans eager to return to Magic for the first time since 2023, when they were firmly beaten by Leigh Leopards.
Daryl Powell’s side have impressed on their Super League return and with their game against rivals Castleford being the finale on Sunday, they’re set to turn out in force.
Wigan Warriors sit second on ticket sales ahead of their game against Warrington Wolves with another one of Sunday’s teams, Hull FC, sitting third for sales.
Leeds Rhinos rank fourth with Brad Arthur’s side set to take on St Helens on Saturday’s finale whilst Super League leaders Hull KR have sold the fifth-most tickets, with the Robins set to face Salford Red Devils on Saturday.
