With 10 games to go, the Super League run-in is approaching rapidly on the horizon and there’s plenty still to play for. Just six points separate the Super League’s top six at present and they’ll continue to jostle for position until the end of the regular campaign.
The play -off spots are far from decided, though, with Leeds Rhinos, bolstered by new coach Brad Arthur, sitting just four points off the pace. The race for the Man of Steel award is just as tight with Marc Sneyd and Matt Dufty currently tied on 18 points at the top.
Of course, there’s still a long way to go in the season, but using the Man of Steel leaderboard, we’ve put together a Super League team of the season so far.
1. Matt Dufty (Warrington Wolves)
MOS Points: 18
Dufty has been a menace for Sam Burgess’ side this season, getting over the line on 13 occasions and laying on 15 more tries. He’s made 19 clean breaks, too, just two less than leader Liam Marshall.
2. Ash Handley (Leeds Rhinos)
MOS Points: 8
Handley has bagged 12 tries for the Rhinos in what has been another strong individual campaign.
3. Nene MacDonald (Salford Red Devils)
MOS Points: 15
The centre has touched down on seven occasions this season to help push Paul Rowley’s side into play-off contention.
4. Tim Lafai (Salford Red Devils)
MOS Points: 7
Lafai’s record for the season stands at six tries and four assists, but he’s right up there for tackle busts registering 118 in total.
5. Liam Marshall (Wigan Warriors)
MOS Points: 8
Super League’s top tryscorer at present, the Wigan man has 17 efforts under his belt, while he has also managed 21 clean breaks in what has been an exceptional season for the winger.
6. Mikey Lewis (Hull KR)
MOS Points: 14
Lewis has been one of the most dangerous players in the league this year and the stats prove it, with 16 assists and eight tries coming in a Robins shirt.
7. Marc Sneyd (Salford Red Devils)
MOS Points: 18
Level at the top of the pile with Dufty, the 33-year-old seems to be ageing like a fine wine at Salford in the Super League. He’s got 18 try assists, more than any other player, and his kicking both from hand and the tee has been almost faultless this season.
8. Patrick Mago (Wigan Warriors)
MOS Points: 6
Props don’t often pick up Man of Steel points, but Mago has six this season with two tries coming inside the club’s first three games.
9. Daryl Clark/Jez Litten (St Helens/Hull KR)
MOS Points: 8
Clark and Litten have both collected eight points this season, meaning they share the hooker role in this side at present. Clark has six assists and five tries to his name and while Litten hasn’t been quite as dangerous close to the line, he has managed to rack up more tackles, runs from dummy half, carries and attacking kicks.
10. Herman Ese’ese (Hull FC)
MOS Points: 5
Hull have struggled for positivity this season but the form of Ese’ese has been a shining light at the MKM Stadium.
11. Kelepi Tangina (Hull KR)
MOS Points: 9
Errors have been high, but Tanginoa has made up for them with a series of strong performances in the Rovers pack.
12. Junior Nsemba (Wigan Warriors)
MOS Points: 8
The 20-year-old has burst onto the scene at the Brick Community Stadium over the last couple of years and he has three tries to his name this season from the back-row.
13. Ben Garcia (Catalans Dragons)
MOS Points: 7
The Frenchman has been a picture of consistency one more this season and his performances have seen him collect plenty of Man of Steel points.
