The Super League regular season is now over, meaning the next game for every club in the play-offs could be their last of the season.
That makes every injury at this stage a potentially season-ending one.
Here’s a round-up of all the fresh injury concerns for sides ahead of the Super League play-off games.
Hull KR – Oliver Gildart
It has certainly been a stop-start season for centre Gildart, who has suffered a number of injury blows across the course of the campaign.
Most recently, he missed out this week due to a rib injury, dropping out in the warmup.
Head coach Willie Peters said: “He probably could have played
“He could have played but at this stage of the season he is feeling uncomfortable with his ribs. We chose to go with players that we believed would do the job and were fit.”
He also said Gildart, Kelepi Tanginoa and Niall Evalds should all be fit to feature in the semi-final.
Leigh Leopards – Kai O’Donnell (winded), John Asiata (head), Aaron Pene (ankle)
Prop Aaron Pene was forced off the field due to what appeared to be an ankle injury early in the second half of their win over St Helens on Friday night.
In addition, captain John Asiata and forward Kai O’Donnell were also forced off late on.
Asiata needed a head injury assessment, and received lengthy on-field treatment from club officials.
Meanwhile, O’Donnell was winded in the final minute of the game.
However, it seems that Adrian Lam is not too concerned about any of these injuries, saying in the post-match press conference via LRL: “Kai just got a serious winding, so he’s fine.
“He’ll be 100% fine (for Salford), and John Asiata passed his HIA test. Everyone’s good to go.”
Salford Red Devils – Harvey Wilson (hamstring)
Halfway through the second half against Wigan, prop Harvey Wilson pulled up trying to chase Liam Marshall with what appeared to be a hamstring injury
St Helens – Moses Mbye (calf), Alex Walmsley (illness)
Mbye was injured in the warmup to their game against Leigh, meaning Jake Burns was forced to start the game.
That was with a calf injury – and head coach Paul Wellens said via St Helens Star: [“I did my Sky interview and then James Roby grabbed me to say Moses had pulled his calf in warm up so I reckon it must have been seven or eight minutes before kick off.”
Asked about an early prognosis and whether he has a chance for next week, Wellens replied: “I think the fact that he couldn’t play today and with these types of injuries, they never usually recover in quick time.
“What we’ll do is get Moses scanned and get some information there in terms of the extent of the injury and then make a decision off the back of that.”
Meanwhile, Alex Walmsley has picked up an illness – Wellens said on Friday: “Walmsley picked up a bit of a sickness bug in the last 48 hours so he comes out of the team”, but it’s unclear what the extent of this is.
