Round One of Super League saw plenty of drama and several records tumble but unfortunately, it also saw a number of injury issues which we’ve recapped.
The action started on Thursday night with Wigan Warriors and Leigh Leopards playing out the season opener which saw several records broken.
It marked the largest-ever Round One attendance as almost 22,000 turned out at the Brick Community Stadium and those who did attend can say that they were there to witness history.
The game finished 0-0 after 80 minutes, the first time that scoreline has ever happened in Super League, before Leigh won it 1-0 in golden point ensuring that it was the lowest-scoring game in Super League history as well.
Just 24 hours later, we went to golden point against as Hull KR snuck past Castleford Tigers whilst their cross-city rivals kicked off the John Cartwright era with an impressive 22-4 win over Catalans in the South of France.
The close scores continued on Saturday when Wakefield marked their return to Super League with a 14-12 win over rivals Leeds, however, Saturday’s evening game marked the low point of the weekend as yet another record was broken.
St Helens beat a Salford Red Devils team largely comprised of reserves and academy players 82-0 to mark the largest-ever margin of victory in the competition.
The action concluded on Sunday when Sam Burgess beat younger brother Tom as Warrington defeated Huddersfield 20-12 at the John Smith’s Stadium.

With five of the six games being competitive and interesting affairs, there’s a lot to celebrate from Round One of Super League but as mentioned there was also a number of players who picked up an injury.
In the Super League opener, Josh Charnley, who had been 50/50 to play, failed to return after half-time on account of his knee injury.
Friday night saw two players fail HIAs with a further two coming on the weekend with Romain Navarrete, Amir Bourouh, Mikolaj Oledzki and Harry Rushton all set to miss Round Two on account of their failed tests.
Hull FC also saw Jed Cartwright leave the field with a hamstring injury, something that plagued his debut campaign in Super League last year.
Lewis Murphy was removed from the action on the hour mark with Paul Wellens confirming that was a precautionary move after the winger reported a “tight hamstring”, whilst Huddersfield’s Sam Hewitt suffered a rib injury on Sunday.
Hull KR man Niall Evalds looked to struggle with his knee and was taken off before returning but Willie Peters did not mention any injury when speaking to BBC Radio Humberside.
FC head coach John Cartwright seemed to indicate that Jack Ashworth would have to go through the HIA protocols as well, although it was not confirmed he had failed.
Cartwright said: “Amir had a HIA and he didn’t come back on the field, he’ll have to go through the protocols there. Jack Ashworth will have to go through them again but outside that we’re pretty good.”
