Super League injury round-up with Hull KR and Leigh Leopards hit hardest

Round Three of Super League saw some brilliant action but unfortunately a large number of injury concerns as well, including for some of the sport’s biggest stars.

It’s a round that will always be remembered for the game where Super League headed to Las Vegas and despite the blowout nature of the game, it certainly provided entertainment which is what both Matt Peet and Sam Burgess has promised.

Wigan won 48-24 but Warrington were allowed back in the game after the 60th minute with Peet’s side taking the foot of the throat of the Wolves at 42-0, conceding four tries in the final 15 minutes.

Leeds Rhinos were another side who conceded plenty of late tries with the Rhinos 38-6 lead at 65 minutes shortening to just 38-24 come the final hooter, something that head coach Brad Arthur was far from pleased with.

Elsewhere, Hull KR won 42-0 against a sorry Salford side who it was later revealed had not been paid as that saga drags on whilst their neighbours Hull FC got back in the win column in an 11-10 game against Huddersfield Giants.

St Helens and Leigh Leopards both kept their 100% records up with 26-6 and 34-6 wins respectively against Wakefield Trinity and Catalans Dragons, the latter of the two seeing a concerning injury to one of their stars.

Round Three Super League injury round-up

Plenty of teams saw injury concerns but for Catalans it was captain Benjamin Garcia who was complaining of a neck issue, something that Warrington’s Lachlan Fitzgibbon also noted in Las Vegas as he appeared to be the victim of an unpunished crusher tackle.

Fitzgibbon did continue but there was another late injury concern for Warrington with the renowned NRL Physio suggesting that the winger could have picked up an ankle sprain during his last minute 90-metre intercept try.

Thursday night’s game saw four players leave the game with injury designations, one of whom will definitely not play in Round Four. That man is Niall Evalds who left the field after just 90 seconds with a failed HIA.

Rhyse Martin followed him into the sheds 15 minutes later with a hip issue whilst Willie Peters conceded that captain Elliot Minchella also had a hamstring niggle. Salford’s Tim Lafai also left the field for a HIA and didn’t return but it was not confirmed if he failed.

As for Friday, Ed Chamberlain appeared to fail a HIA whilst Joe Greenwood (knee) and Zac Woolford (ankle) also picked up blows, although the Australian did return to the field.

At the Leigh Sports Village, Adrian Lam revealed that Robbie Mulhern (calf) and Alec Tuitavake (ankle) will have to be assessed as the injuries seem to add up for the Leopards.

Sunday’s game between Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers saw Brad Arthur able to sub off James Bentley and Ryan Hall for preventative reasons, whilst Danny McGuire confirmed Joe Westerman and Fletcher Rooney to be among those with niggles.
