A number of Super League clubs will be checking on injuries this week as they ready themselves for round three. Round two seems to have been a costly one as a raft of players leaving the fray over the course of the six games, with some key men reporting to the treatment room this morning.
Last season’s Man of Steel Mikey Lewis was arguably the most high profile injury issue, with the half-back damaging his ankle in the act of scoring a try at Wakefield Trinity on Thursday night. Lewis received treatment and strapping to allow him to battle through the pain a few more minutes before stepping out of the action.
Rovers fans will have certainly been concerned after full-time, too, as the half-back limped onto the pitch with crutches and a boot to shake hands with the opposition. That could leave Willie Peters facing something of a half-back crisis, with Tyrone May missing the game at Belle Vue with a hamstring issue.
Wakefield Trinity were without Jake Trueman due to illness and Corey Hall was withdrawn from the action at half-time after taking a turn for the worse in the dressing room.
Friday was a costly night for Hull FC as the club picked up a couple of injuries during their loss to Wigan Warriors. The Black and Whites saw Ligi Sao stretchered off with a knee injury and he could now be looking at a lengthy spell on the sidelines. John Asiata left the field with a bicep issue, too, while Zak Hardaker wasn’t involved at all after picking up a groin injury in the build-up to the game.
Leeds Rhinos were another team to pick up multiple injury problems in round two as they got the win over Salford Red Devils at the Salford Community Stadium. Brodie Croft was the most concerning as he was stretchered from the field after a head knock, but Cameron Smith suffered an ankle injury which Brad Arthur wasn’t too optimistic about when speaking after the game.
Matt Frawley required eight stitches in his hand after catching it on the boot of a Salford player, but he was able to continue and help the club ease to victory.
St Helens’ Morgan Knowles failed a HIA ensuring he won’t be involved next week against Wakefield Trinity, while Adrian Lam confirmed that Frankie Halton had picked up a groin issue during Leigh’s win over Huddersfield Giants on Sunday.
