Round 27 of Super League concluded over the weekend but there’s still play-off action to come and for two teams involved this week, there could be big concerns regarding injuries.
Wakefield travelled to Leigh and defeated them on Friday night, something that ensured they will play at home against the Leopards this Friday in the first round of the play-offs.
Because of the importance of that game, both teams went as strong as they could and they’ve now perhaps learnt the danger in that as each team has come out with injury worries.
In comparison, both Warrington Wolves and Hull KR, who will meet on Saturday, rotated heavily and as a result, their starters are at full fitness for this weekend’s knock-out game.
There were also injuries sustained for those who are out of the play-off mix as Tyler Dupree (HIA) and Clement Martin (hamstring) picked up problems, however, with their campaigns now ended they will have a full off-season of recovery.
Super League play-offs injury doubts
For Leigh, the big concern is prop forward Robbie Mulhern, who went off down the tunnel at half time with a calf issue that Adrian Lam has suggested could well end his season.
Lam would also confirm post-match that he could call on some of those who has missed out with Keanan Brand and Jack Ashworth both name-checked as possible returnees after injury. Meanwhile, Leigh will also have Isaac Liu back after he missed out on Friday due to his partner going into labour.
As for Wakefield, they’ll certainly be without Jayden Myers, who failed a HIA on Friday night which means he starts the return-to-play protocols and is stood down.
Two big members of the Trinity pack did not play though and it wasn’t because of rest but because of injury, with Daryl Powell confirming that both Caleb Hamlin-Uele and Ky Rodwell will see specialists this week.
Hamlin-Uele, who was selected to the Dream Team over the weekend, has a knee issue, whilst Rodwell is nursing a shoulder problem. Both would be big misses if they do not pass fit.
