Super League Injury News: Wigan Warriors suffer blow as rivals lose two

Betfred Super League Round Three has been and gone and the big winners this weekend were Leeds Rhinos, St Helens and Wigan Warriors but there was some worrying Super League injury news for some teams.

The action started on Friday night with three games all kicking off at the same time live on Sky Sports.

Wigan Warriors had what many would have felt would have been a tough task after their World Club Challenge win over the Penrith Panthers.

They hosted Huddersfield Giants and came away with the win on the back of 18 early points, a Bevan French masterclass and a Liam Marshall hat-trick.

Elsewhere on Friday night, Warrington Wolves battled back from a slow start to secure back to back wins under Sam Burgess,

St Helens were also the winners on Friday defeating Leigh Leopards 12-4 thanks to tries from Jack Welsby and Tommy Makinson.

On Saturday, Leeds Rhinos ended Catalans Dragons’ unbeaten start thanks to tries from Ash Handley and Harry Newman and Salford Red Devils did the same to Hull KR on the back of a Marc Sneyd masterclass. On Sunday, Hull FC claimed their first win against London Broncos.

On the Super League injury new front, six clubs have suffered injury blows. Wigan Warriors suffered a blow in the pre-match training with Liam Byrne pulling out with a bruised hip. It remains to be seen if he will return next week.

Leigh Leopards were hit the hardest with Tom Briscoe and Tom Briscoe suffering torn calves against St Helens.

There was a theme this week of players pulling out of fixtures in training with Mike McMeeken and Ryan Brierley doing the same on Saturday.

On Sunday there were a couple of head injuries between Hull FC and London Broncos.
