Round Twelve of Super League has seen plenty of clubs suffer injury blows and here is the news on each team’s issues, with Hull FC, Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors among the most-affected.
Approaching the halfway point in the season, a clear top two and bottom three are being established, whilst the remaining play-off contenders are also being separated into likely locks and outside chances.
Hull KR and Wigan Warriors remain ahead of the pack and both sides won once again, with Wigan’s 48-0 win over Catalans Dragons among the most dominant of the Round.
Despite that strong win which helped them stay within two points of Super League leaders Hull KR, Matt Peet’s side left the South of France with some concerning injury news.
Another side dealt injury blows were Warrington Wolves who now sit ninth, four points adrift from the Super League play-offs, and with Wembley on the horizon. They lost 31-12 to their Wembley opponents Hull KR, whilst wins for St Helens, Wakefield Trinity, and Hull FC ensured they sit adrift the top six.
Of the twelve Super League teams in action, six look set to head into Round 13 with fresh injury news to contend with.
Super League injury news: Hull FC spine dealt key blow as Warrington and Wigan lose key men
Hull FC put in a very strong performance against Leigh, winning 26-12, but their dominance and control faltered when spine stars John Asiata (hamstring) and Cade Cust (hip) left the field. John Cartwright gave an update on both men with Asiata potentially the worse of the two.
Friday night saw St Helens ease past Huddersfield 46-4 and despite a number of players returning for the Giants, one of those couldn’t finish the game in Oliver Wilson as his back issue flared up. Luke Robinson confirmed he pulled the prop immediately given the way the scoreline was blowing out.
Friday’s other game saw major blows for Warrington Wolves with two leaving the field injured and one key man not playing on account of injury. Marc Sneyd missed out due to a ‘knock’ whilst Oli Leyland left the field after just 12 minutes with a knee issue.
Makeshift hooker Jordy Crowther also couldn’t complete due to an ankle issue, causing more problems for Sam Burgess ahead of the Challenge Cup Final.
Castleford Tigers lost Tom Amone to a HIA whilst Sam Wood wasn’t risked as his shoulder issue ruled him out against Leeds.
Saturday’s later game saw both Luke Thompson and Sam Walters unable to complete the game with rib and lower leg injuries respectively, though Matt Peet was unable to offer much more information.
Wakefield’s Tom Johnstone left the field with a leg injury and didn’t return but that could be precautionary given the blowout score, with Trinity winning 72-10 against Salford.
