After Round Six of Super League, there is plenty of injury news to get through with a number of sides suffering key blows.
The ladder continues to take shape with teams settling into more established positions and that means the story of the season so far is still the two Hull clubs with KR unbeaten and sitting atop the table, whilst Hull FC sit second on nine points.
Both teams won in Round Six ahead of their Challenge Cup quarter-final clash on Saturday at the MKM Stadium, a game with massive stakes on the line and a true test of where each side is at.
Other teams are also becoming established at the foot of the table with all of the bottom four losing this past week with two of those conceding 50 or more points, however, Catalans can perhaps count themselves unlucky to be grouped with Salford, Huddersfield and Castleford, with the Dragons losing 14-13 to St Helens in a hard-fought affair.
Elsewhere, in Super League’s 5,00th and 5,001st game, Warrington edged Leeds and Wakefield hammered Leigh with Leigh now set to head to Wakefield for their upcoming Challenge Cup clash.
Of the eight teams in Challenge Cup action, five picked up fresh injury blows in Round Six of Super League and here is a run down of that news.
Super League injury news as Hull FC and Hull KR suffer blows before Challenge Cup derby
Hull FC were perhaps dealt the biggest blow as Cade Cust failed a HIA which automatically rules him out against Hull KR. Sam Eseh (knee) and Amir Bourouh (ankle) were two others to pick up knocks as the Black and Whites defeated Castleford 24-14. Bourouh could also find himself in hot water with the disciplinary panel after his sin bin against Cas.
Leigh Leopards saw Keanan Brand limp for the majority of the game after scoring his try with the outside back appearing to suffer a knee injury, however, the fact he remained on the field of play could indicate it’s not too bad.
St Helens’ Harry Robertson failed a HIA whilst their Challenge Cup opponents Warrington were without almost their entire starting back line as Sam Burgess faces an injury crisis.
That crisis isn’t quite as bad as Huddersfield’s with the Giants picking up more blows as Adam Swift and Tui Lolohea both left the field late on in their 50-4 loss to Hull KR, whilst try-scorer George Flanagan Jr left the field but did return.
As for Hull KR, they’ll await news on James Batchelor who suffered a hamstring injury and will possibly miss the derby whilst elsewhere in Super League, Brodie Croft suffered from a tight hamstring so is one to watch.
Many of the Salford team played with injuries and it was confirmed that Chris Hill (calf) didn’t return to the field for the second half, whilst Justin Sangare and Joe Shorrocks played through injuries.
