After round 7 of Super League, there have been a number of injuries across the league, including a trio of knocks for St Helens and two key issues for table-topping Hull KR.
It was a weekend with some surprising results with Hull KR finishing their unbeaten run, having lost 28-12 to Wigan Warriors. Hull FC had a big 28-16 away win at Warrington Wolves in a game of two halves.
Only one home side won in round 7, that being St Helens, who grabbed a 26-14 win over Wakefield Trinity. There were away wins for Leeds Rhinos, Leigh Leopards and Catalans Dragons as they faced the bottom three sides in Salford Red Devils, Castleford Tigers and Huddersfield Giants respectively.
However, many of these victories have come at a cost for the top sides as well as struggling sides Salford and Huddersfield. Five sides go into Rivals Round with injuries to key players and with a busy spring/summer schedule ahead, they may have to reconfigure their squads or dip into the loan market. Here’s a rundown of the injury news from round seven.
Super League injury updates as St Helens suffer trio of blows and Hull KR pair monitored ahead of Good Friday derby
St Helens coach Paul Wellens will once again be ringing the changes through for their Good Friday derby against Wigan Warriors. Having only just returned from a HIA last weekend, Harry Robertson didn’t return for the second half after suffering a quad injury. Another returnee Lewis Murphy also limped off with cramp in the latter stages of their win over Wakefield Trinity. There’s also doubt over Joe Batchelor and with such a big game ahead, Monday will be a waiting game in the St Helens camp.
Table-topping Hull KR might have suffered their first loss of the 2025 Super League season to Wigan but they may also have lost two in-form players. Mickey McIlorum picked up a bicep injury and Sauaso Sue left the field with an arm injury. However, with the likely return of Mikey Lewis for Friday’s derby at Hull FC, Jez Litten will return to hooker in McIlorum’s place.
It’s not getting any easier for Luke Robinson and his Huddersfield Giants players. Not only are they still without a point following Sunday’s loss to Catalans Dragons, they’ve picked up another two injuries. New loanee Bill Leyland went off with a HIA, which he later failed, meaning he’ll miss Friday’s trip to Leeds Rhinos. After joining on just a two-week loan, his Giants stint may be over before it’s barely begun. Fenton Rogers also picked up an ankle problem in the defeat.
Whilst Salford’s off-field problems don’t look to be solved any time soon, they’re also struggling on-field. Another loss on Thursday night against Leeds Rhinos and before the game had even kicked off, fullback Ryan Brierley pulled out of the 21-man squad with a hamstring injury. Chris Atkin moved into the role against Leeds and it’s unclear when Brierley will return.
Catalans Dragons claimed their third victory of the 2025 Super League season with a 38-18 win over Huddersfield Giants on Sunday afternoon. However, Arthur Romano picked up a leg injury during that away win.
