Super League injury news as Hull KR and St Helens men ruled out amid Hull FC and Warrington Wolves concern

Super League

Round 17 of Super League is in the books and it was one for the underdogs, with the current top two both falling to defeats. Leeds Rhinos claimed a big scalp as they edged out Hull KR at Craven Park and in doing so, they became only the second side to beat the Robins this calendar year.

Wigan Warriors, on the other hand, were beaten by Leigh Leopards, who came from behind to seal an 18-8 win over their local rivals in front of a sell out crowd.

The results ensure Leeds and Leigh are now within touching distance of the top two and they’ll be backing themselves to kick on over the final 10 games of the campaign.

St Helens remain fifth after their win over Hull FC, while Wakefield Trinity now occupy the final spot in the play-offs after thumping Catalans Dragons.

Warrington Wolves and Huddersfield Giants were the other winners in an eventful round of action. But, a number of players picked up injury concerns across the weekend and head coaches will be checking on the fitness of some key men in the coming days.

Here, we take a look at the injury concerns to crop up in round 17.

Mikey Lewis was the most high profile man to pick up an injury over the weekend as he failed a head injury assessment at Craven Park. The Robins struggled to create in his absence and they ultimately lost the game against Leeds.

Due to concussion protocols, Lewis won’t be available when KR take on Leigh Leopards on Saturday.

Rodrick Tai was unable to complete the game for Warrington Wolves on Friday with the centre being forced off with what appeared to be torn pec. St Helens have picked up an injury in the outside backs, too, with Deon Cross taking a blow to his foot last week, ensuring he was ruled out of the clash against Hull FC.

The Black and Whites saw Jordan Rapana pass a HIA on Saturday, but Brad Fash had to come off with an issue that was undefined by the head coach when speaking after the game.

Castleford Tigers saw Joe Westerman, Chris Atkin and Daejarn Asi pick up injuries against Huddersfield, but all three played on through the pain. They’ll be checked this week ahead of the Tigers’ clash with Salford Red Devils on Sunday.
