Another round of Super League is complete and it came at a price for some with injuries striking for a number of clubs.
Hull KR are still top dogs in the competition and their win over Wakefield Trinity on Friday night ensures they remain four points clear at the summit of the division. It was very nearly six points, with Wigan Warriors requiring a last minute try from Liam Farrell against Castleford Tigers to remain within touching distance of the Robins.
Leeds Rhinos moved back up to third as they beat Leigh Leopards in an entertaining contest, while St Helens aren’t far behind after thrashing Salford Red Devils once more.
Warrington Wolves moved to within three points of the play-offs with a win over Hull FC, while Catalans Dragons picked up their first win in eight as they thumped Huddersfield Giants 32-0.
With 11 games to go in Super League, the end of the season looks set to be enthralling with battles raging at the top of the table and in the play-offs.
However, head coaches across the division will be checking on the injuries they picked up this week as they prepare for the final months of the season.
Super League injury concerns from round 16
Wakefield Trinity were fantastic for 40 minutes at Hull KR on Friday night, but they dropped off a cliff after the break and that change coincided with the departure of Jake Trueman. The half-back impressed in the first half but picked up a shoulder injury that meant he had to be withdrawn from the action.
Daryl Powell was hopeful after the game that the injury wasn’t too bad, but he couldn’t be certain.
Leigh Leopards picked up two knee injuries on the same night as David Armstrong and Darnell McIntosh limped out of the action. They’re both looking at spells on the sidelines it seems and look set to miss Friday’s clash with Wigan Warriors.
Wigan might well end up playing without Liam Marshall, too. The winger was selected for Saturday’s game at Castleford but was forced to pull out of the warm up after rolling his ankle. That came just a week after he was forced off against Wakefield through injury, too.
Jonny Vaughan suffered a shoulder injury while in action for Salford Red Devils against his parent club St Helens and he looks set to be sidelined, while Warrington Wolves’ Rodrick Tai was taken off through precaution after taking a knock against Hull FC.
