Super League injuries as Hull FC, St Helens and Wakefield Trinity dealt blows ahead of final round

Super League

The penultimate round of Super League fixtures have been completed and some head coaches will be nervously checking on the fitness of key players.

Hull KR are still on top of the Super League table, but they were beaten convincingly on Saturday night by Wakefield Trinity to ensure they must wait until the final week of the season to lift the League Leaders’ Shield.

Leeds Rhinos were also stunned by Catalans Dragons at Headingley on Thursday night, while Leigh Leopards beat St Helens handily in the end on Friday to secure a top four spot.

A depleted Hull FC outfit gave Warrington Wolves a hiding at the MKM Stadium to keep their hopes of securing a play-off spot alive heading into the final week. Elsewhere there were wins for Wigan Warriors and Huddersfield Giants during what was an entertaining round of fixtures.

Round 26 has come at a price for some though and here, we take a look at the injuries picked up by Super League teams as they head into the final round of fixtures.

Super League injuries from round 26

St Helens will be looking to welcome Morgan Knowles back into the action this week against Castleford Tigers after missing the last two with a head knock, but as their star loose-forward returns, Alex Walmsley will drop out.

The prop failed a HIA in the first half of the loss to Leigh Leopards and he won’t be seen now until the play-offs.

Sam Eseh also failed a HIA and that could well be his season done, depending on whether or not Hull FC secure a spot in the top six. Eseh was on the end of a high shot from Lachlan Fitzgibbon and had to be withdrawn from the contest.

Wakefield’s Seth Nikotemo injured his ankle in the win over Hull KR, while Huddersfield Giants’ Jack Billington suffered a rib injury as Luke Robinson’s side beat Salford Red Devils.

The only other injury of note came on Thursday night with Bayley Sironen leaving the field with an issue on 20 minutes and didn’t return.
