Former Super League icon handed suspension as ex-Hull FC and Wigan Warriors men also cop charges

Leeds Rhinos

Former Super League stalwart and Leeds Rhinos forward Brett Ferres has landed in some hot water with the disciplinary panel this week.

The 40-year-old, who is still playing competitively for Goole Vikings and is in his 22nd career as a professional, has been handed a hefty charge in the club’s defeat to London Broncos.

The 2017 Grand Final winner has been hit with a Grade D dangerous contact charge, which has a value of 15 disciplinary points.

As a result, it has taken him over the threshold for a two match ban, which he will serve in the coming weeks, and a fine.

In that game, London matched an all-time club record, after picking up their 10th successsive victory in a row, something they have only achieved once before.

Ferres, who has also featured in the top flight for Castleford, Bradford, Huddersfield and Wakefield, was one of five Championship players to be cited by the Match Review Panel.

Joining him on the naughty list this week are former Hull FC man Jordan Johnstone (Widnes Vikings), who copped a Grade C Late contact on passer charge, but no ban, and ex-Wakefield youngster Robbie Butterworth (Batley Bulldogs), who was done for a Grade C Shoulder Charge.

Former Wigan and Warrington prop Joe Bullock is another to have copped a charge, but his was only Grade A.
