Heading into the Super League semi-finals both Leigh Leopards and Warrington Wolves will be stressing today’s disciplinary verdict.
Neither side have any clear and glaring disciplinary issues ahead of the semi-finals with just one yellow card dished out across the first round of the Super League play-offs, but both sides will still be nervy given how the Match Review Panel have ruled at times this season.
Across the Super League season, there were a record number of sin bins and red cards but just one card was shown this past weekend.
That was handed to Leigh Leopards’ Jack Hughes with the forward shown yellow late on as he attempted to slow the play the ball down when Salford were advancing.
It was merely a professional foul and not an incident that will likely draw any further action but that’s not to say it will be the only incident looked at by the Match Review Panel.
Super League disciplinary verdict awaits
Leigh Leopards already know that they will be without Josh Charnley and Frankie Halton with both men having failed HIAs in the victory over Salford.
Charnley’s injury came in very concerning fashion with the winger flipping over on his neck before being stretchered off and taken to hospital. He later confirmed that he was fine after his release from Salford Royal.
As for Warrington Wolves, they could also be unaffected by the disciplinary panel with Wire seeming clean in what was one of the most memorable Super League games in recent history.
Their golden point victory has earned them a semi-final trip across the M62 to face Hull KR at Craven Park and despite not playing, Hull KR are a side that will definitely be affected by the Super League disciplinary wrath.
Captain Elliot Minchella saw his second appeal against the grading of his ‘Head Contact’ charge from Round 26 fail meaning that the Robins will be without the England international for Friday night’s game.
