Super League Disciplinary: Wigan Warriors duo punished as eight matches total in bans handed out

Wigan Warriors Adam Keighran could face Super League disciplinary action.

We’re back to Monday again, meaning Super League clubs have been waiting nervously for the RFL Match Review Panel’s Super League disciplinary verdicts.

Last week, George Williams was the only man banned, getting a one-match Penalty Notice for dangerous contact.

This week, one side that would have been particularly concerned is Catalans Dragons, and one incident in the game saw the match officials miss what seemed to be a shoulder charge with no attempt to wrap from Tariq Sims, and this could be of consequence with the Panel looking at the incidents from the game.

Franck Maria then did put Catalans a man down, as he was sin-binned for a high shot in the first half, sparking angry responses from Saints players.

Romain Navarrete and Ben Garcia both gave plenty of attention to Jack Welsby, making contact with his head in the resulting melée and could also face action based on that.

Meanwhile, for Wigan, Adam Keighran was given a red card for a nasty-looking shot on Lindop with direct contact to the head. After the game, head coach Matt Peet said he was ‘disappointed with his actions’ but has since backtracked, suggesting that it wasn’t as bad as it first looked.

Tyler Dupree, meanwhile, seemed to headbutt an opposition player at a play the ball, while Brad O’Neill’s tackle that gave Warrington the chance to go into a 2-0 lead could also have had consequences.

Another side worrying was Salford, as Oli Partington, although not punished at the time, seemed to make contact with the head, and Chris Hankinson’s late, also unpunished, shot on Hakim Miloudi also looked like it could have consequences.

Wigan duo Tyler Dupree and Adam Keighran have both been handed three-match bans for Grade D offences, meaning they’ll both miss the Challenge Cup final.

This is despite Wigan head coach Matt Peet suggesting he didn’t think Keighran would be given a ban.

Meanwhile, six players received ÂŁ250 fines, including Wigan’s Brad O’Neill.

The big news from the Championship is that Sheffield Eagles’ Matty Marsh has been given a two-match Penalty Notice for Grade D Dangerous Throw/Lift.
