Super League disciplinary decisions confirmed with five banned including St Helens and Hull KR players

Referee Tom Grant shows St Helens star Mark Percival a red card as the new Super League disciplinary laws continue to take centre stage.

Monday has rolled around again, which can only mean one thing: the Match Review Panel have made their Super League disciplinary decisions after Round 19.

Last week, we saw four players charged but just one ban, as James Harrison of Warrington Wolves was sent off for making head contact with his shoulder, was handed a Grade D charge but banned for just two games.

This week, the action started on Thursday night as Leeds Rhinos comfortably defeated Huddersfield Giants 34-6.

There, Sam Lisone’s contact leading with the elbow was of particular interest to the panel, while he and Adam Milner were handed yellow cards in that game.

On Friday night, St Helens’ miserable 80 minutes, losing 40-4 to Leigh Leopards, was made worse by a duo of Mark Percival and Jonny Lomax being sent for 10.

Elsewhere, Hull KR beat London Broncos 40-16 and Warrington Wolves also hit 40, defeating Wigan Warriors 40-4.

Matt Dufty was sin-binned for a tip tackle on Liam Marshall which the Panel kept a close eye on.

On Saturday, Castleford Tigers’ 30-22 defeat to Salford Red Devils was in part down to Liam Horne’s sin-bin for a late hit and Sylvester Namo’s for a high tackle.

Later, we saw two red cards as Catalans Dragons beat Hull FC 24-16, with Tariq Sims sent off for moving an injured player and Ligi Sao was dismissed for a high tackle.

Some huge bans are set to be handed out, with a Grade E Head Contact charge handed to St Helens ‘ Jonny Lomax – which will likely result in 4-6 games out.

Meanwhile, as well as his Grade B Head Contact charge, Tariq Sims has been giving a Grade F ‘Lifting injured player’ charge, which is 6+ games suspended.

Also given bans are St Helens’ Mark Percival, given a one-game ban for Grade B head Contact, Liam Horne of Castleford Tigers, given a two game ban for Grade C Head Contact (higher end), Ligi Sao of Hull FC for Grade C Head Contact (higher end) and Matty Storton of Hull KR.

Storton’s ‘Grade C Other contrary behaviour’ charge is listed in the Panel’s minutes as being for ‘use of leg in tackle’ and will see him banned for one game.
