With Monday rolling around again, it’s time for teams to learn which Super League disciplinary decisions have been made by the RFL – and this includes Hull KR learning Jai Whitbread’s fate after a controversial yellow.
Last week, some hefty bans were handed out, with Fenton Rogers of Huddersfield Giants receiving four games in bans while Paul Vaughan of Warrington Wolves was ruled out of three.
Meanwhile, Castleford duo Sylvester Namo and Liam Horne were banned for two and one games respectively, and Rogers’ teammate Sam Hewitt was banned for a game himself.
This week, Friday night saw Wigan Warriors vs Hull KR affected by yellow cards to Joe Burgess and Jai Whitbread, and that saw the Warriors move into prime position to win the League Leaders’ Shield.
Whitbread’s, for a high tackle, was of particular interest to the Panel.
Elsewhere, Leeds Rhinos hammered Hull FC 68-6 in yet another embarrassment for the Black and Whites, while Leigh Leopards stayed on track in their play-off fight with victory over Castleford Tigers.
On Saturday, Warrington Wolves beat St Helens, which means Saints are now level on points with Leeds Rhinos, in a precarious position in the play-off spots.
However, the Wolves saw Lachlan Fitzgibbon sent to the bin for a high tackle – causing disciplinary concern – while Matty Lees was also yellow-carded.
Meanwhile, Salford Red Devils probably secured a post-season berth as they defeated Catalans Dragons, who may now find it tricky to do so themselves.
Their man Alrix da Costa was put on report for a high tackle here – which the Panel have been discussing.
Finally, Huddersfield Giants scraped past London Broncos on Sunday afternoon.
Super League disciplinary decisions confirmed as five banned including unique charge
Warrington Wolves may have won against St Helens but Lachlan Fitzgibbon’s Grade C Head Contact charge will see him miss their next game against Huddersfield Giants, and teammate Sam Powell’s Grade B Head Contact charge means he’s received a £250 fine.
Their opponents, however, see both Moses Mbye and Matty Lees banned for a game.
Mbye’s charge is for Dangerous Contact, but Matty Lees’ is for ‘contact with a match official’.
Meanwhile, Jenson Windley of Castleford Tigers and Will Lovell of London Broncos both receive £250 fines for Grade B Head Contact.
Moving over to Hull, both Super League sides in the city have players facing bans.
Hull FC will be without Jed Cartwright for a game due to a Grade C Dangerous Contact charge, but it’s Jai Whitbread that was the subject of much debate after a controversial decision to hand him a yellow card.
He’s been given a Grade C Head Contact charge, and will miss a game.
Here are all the charges.
