Super League disciplinary decisions confirmed with six bans including Wigan Warriors star

Super League disciplinary

Monday has rolled around again, which can only mean one thing: the Match Review Panel have made their Super League disciplinary decisions after Magic Weekend.

Last week, we saw ten players charged, with Josh Charnley of Leigh Leopards banned for one game, while St Helens were faced with two games without Morgan Knowles.

The big story, however, was Wigan half Harry Smith’s three-game ban for an elbow on Leeds Rhinos’ James Bentley.

This weekend, Magic Weekend saw nine sin-bins across the six games of action.

The action started with the bottom two sides, and Hull FC left Elland Road humiliated after a 29-4 loss to London Broncos, who now move level with them on points. Denive Balmforth was sin-binned.

Following that was a victory for Wigan Warriors over rivals St Helens, despite being without Harry Smith, and despite a last-minute sin-bin for Kaide Ellis.

Saturday’s action finished with a 24-6 victory over Leeds Rhinos for Warrington Wolves, where three sin-bins were handed out – although David Fusitu’a caused controversy.

Sunday got underway as Leigh Leopards comfortably defeated Salford Red Devils, to make a playoff finish seem to be a very real possibility – being just three points behind fourth, fifth and sixth. There, Red Devils duo Ethan Ryan and Brad Singleton were sent for 10 due to high shots.

Next up saw Hull KR return to the summit of the table after another one-sided game saw then see off Catalans Dragons, and the Panel would have spent significant time debating the outcome of an alleged bite by Cesar Rougé on Mikey Lewis, which wasn’t seen by officials at the time.

Finally, despite two Huddersfield sin-bins – to Fenton Rogers and Tui Lolohea – the Giants saw off a late fightback from Castleford Tigers to cement their ninth position in the league.

Six players have received bans this week, but perhaps most notable is a player not included.

Ligi Sao and Denive Balmforth will both miss a game for Hull FC for Dangerous Contact,, while Salford duo Oli Partington and Tim Lafai have the same fate.

Castleford Tigers forward Muizz Mustapha has also received a game ban, as does Wigan’s Kaide Ellis.

Cesar Rougé was alleged to have bitten Mikey Lewis but he is not sanctioned.
