Elliott Whitehead has been hit with a two-game Super League ban for his actions in Friday’s Challenge Cup quarter-final clash with Salford Red Devils by disciplinary. The Dragons sealed their spot in the next round of the competition with a comfortable win at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.
However, they will now be without Whitehead for their next two Super League games after the back-rower was handed a Grade D Head Contact charge. Whitehead was sent to the sin bin during the contest and he has now been handed further punishment.
It means that, unless the ban is successfully appealed, he will miss upcoming games against Huddersfield Giants and Salford Red Devils. Catalans will understandably have eyes on maximum points over the next fortnight, but Steve McNamara will have a decision to make in the back-row.
Tariq Sims has also been charged by the Match Review Panel, but he receives just one penalty point for his Grade A late contact on the passer infringement.
Chris Hill is the third man to charged from that game. The Salford prop received the same charge as Sims, with no further action being taken.
Mike McMeeken is the only other man sanctioned after the cup quarter-finals. The Wakefield Trinity man was on the losing side on Friday night as Daryl Powell’s side took on Leigh Leopards and he has been handed a Grade A dangerous throw/lift charge.
No further action has been taken but he now has two penalty points.
