Super League disciplinary as Hull KR, Leigh Leopards and St Helens stars among 10 charged

A total of 10 Super League players have been handed sanctions by the Match Review Panel following round four’s action.

Of those players four have been given Grade B charges, with Adam Clune, Sauaso Sue, Romain Navarrete and Matt Davis all being handed three disciplinary points. All four players have received a fine but given the threshold for a ban is six points, they will all be allowed to feature for their respective clubs in the Challenge Cup this weekend.

Davis’ sanction comes after he was placed on report for a suspected crusher tackle in Leigh Leopards‘ draw with Hull FC. Catalans Dragons’ Navarrete’s dangerous contact came during the club’s first win of the season at home to Leeds Rhinos, while Sue is penalised for a similar offence in the win over St Helens on Friday night.

Clune was making his first appearance of the Super League season on Sunday for Huddersfield Giants and he impressed in the defeat to Wigan Warriors, but he has been sanctioned for reckless contact with the match official.

Salford Red Devils trio Kallum Watkins, Chris Atkin and Chris Hankinson have all been handed one disciplinary point for their respective actions against Castleford Tigers, while Alex Walmsley, Jed Cartwright and George Lawler have also been punished.

Notably there is nothing due for either Aidan Sezer or Jordan Rapana, who were sin-binned for high shots on Thursday night, while Wigan Warriors’ Harry Smith has not been sanctioned for what appeared to be dangerous contact on Clune.

I’m always impressed that the review panel have, by Monday afternoon, watched in detail all the incidents which were picked up by the match officials and many of the incidents NOT picked up by the match officials, which presumably means carefully monitoring all of every game, and come to the conclusions they have.
Hang on. Did I mean “impressed”??
