Super League disciplinary as Hull KR, Leeds Rhinos and St Helens men handed bans

Hull KR forward Rhyse Martin will miss this weekend’s Hull derby after being hit with a ban by Super League disciplinary.

The Rovers man was sin-binned in the win over St Helens on Friday night for a high tackle on Saints loose-forward Morgan Knowles. The England international went on to fail a HIA ruling out of the rest of the contest at Craven Park and Friday’s game against Wigan Warriors at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

The Match Review Panel have met today and have handed Martin a Grade D head contact charge, with three extra points being handed to the back-rower due to the injury he caused. As such, he will miss games against Hull FC and Wakefield Trinity and that means he could very well be sidelined for the moment Rovers win the League Leaders’ Shield, which would be a huge blow given he missed the Challenge Cup final earlier this year, too.

Rovers and the other clubs impacted by the Match Review Panel verdict, do have the option to challenge to ruling but whether they will remains to be seen.

St Helens forward George Delaney was also sin-binned for a high tackle during that game and he’ll also miss the clash with Wigan now after being handed a Grade C charge.

Delaney made direct shoulder to head contact with Eribe Doro, but the Rovers man stayed on the field, which may well have saved Delaney at the time. However, given his previous the charge pushes him over the threshold for a one match ban.

Leeds Rhinos forward Joe Shorrocks has been handed a two-match ban for what was deemed to be a dangerous tackle in the clash between Leeds and Hull on Saturday with that challenge being put on report.

The Grade C charge was only worth five points but his previous seed him banned for two weeks.

Huddersfield Giants’ Taane Milne has also been banned with a Grade A head contact charge, with his history handing him the ban.
