Super League disciplinary as Hull FC pair among eight charged and one ban handed out

The Super League disciplinary verdict after Round Six of the competition is in with one player banned amid a total of eight who were charged.

Whilst eight players have been charged, there are actually a total of nine charges as one player has been hit twice but still evaded a ban due to how the new disciplinary system works.

Penalty points are handed down to players with those points adding up and players being banned and/or fined once they reach certain thresholds, meaning not all charges equate to bans.

Of the nine charges handed out this weekend, the majority are Grades A and B which are worth just one and three penalty points respectively, whereas bans are only handed out when players reach six penalty points.

However, one of them is a Grade D charge which carries 12 points with the player in question also receiving an additional three due to the fact they caused injury to their opponent.

As confirmed by the RFL, Castleford Tigers’ Innes Senior is the man to be handed a two-match ban with the winger handed a Grade D charge for making head contact when attempting to tackle Cade Cust.

The tall winger got high on the shorter back and that saw him controversially sin-binned after review but the punishment didn’t stop there with the Match Review Panel deeming it worthy of a Grade D charge. Those 12 points, plus the three for causing injury as Cust failed a HIA, mean Senior is now fined and banned for two matches.

He was the only man to be banned but there were three other charges from that game, two going to the same player as Amir Bourouh copped two charges for dangerous contact, including for the tackle that saw him sin-binned.

Bourouh receives one Grade A charge and one Grade B, earning him one and three points respectively which are added to the one penalty point he had previously. One of the curious ways the disciplinary system works this year is that charges carrying three or more points see half the points rescinded once the punishment is accepted, meaning Bourough will actually resume on 3.5 points as the three point charge is halved.

Liam Knight is the other man from that game to be charged, landing a Grade A for a late hit on the passer which is something that Matty Dufty was also charged with. Oliver Partington also recieved that charge but his offence was deemed a Grade B meaning he earns three penalty points (halved to 1.5 when he pays the fine).

Paul Vaughan was hit with a Grade A charge for raising his knee in the tackle, whilst Tristan Sailor was hit with a Grade B charge for dangerous contact. Wigan’s Tyler Dupree, who was sin binned for making head contact with Nathan Connell, escapes with just a Grade B charge.
