Super League disciplinary as Fenton Rogers’ decision made and Warrington Wolves forward banned for play-offs

Warrington Wolves’ young forward Charlie McKler will not be available for the play-offs with the youngster handed a three-game ban on the back of today’s Super League disciplinary meeting.

The Match Review Panel have met and charged eight players, two of whom are banned with McKler being one of them. The rising Wire forward likely would not have featured prominently in the play-offs, though he has made two Super League appearances, including against Wakefield Trinity.

That day, McKler came off the bench to debut as he offered depth in the pack but he was part of a youthful Warrington side that beat Toulouse Olympique on Friday night.

The viral moment from that game was McKler’s hit on the Toulouse back who was trying to get out of his in-goal, with the Wire forward steaming in and failing to wrap as he also made head contact.

That saw him sin-binned with the incident causing debate over whether it should have been a red card, and the Match Review Panel have now handed him a Grade E head contact charge that carries a three-game ban, suggesting it should have been red.

Because he has copped a three-match ban, McKler will miss the Grand Final should Wire make it.

Super League round 27 disciplinary charges

One man was sent off this weekend and that was Huddersfield’s Fenton Rogers. The prop led with the elbow when carrying and he’s also been handed a Grade E charge, although it only carries a two-game ban.

Because Rogers was sent off in the first half, he saw two points deducted from the 18 penalty points he was handed down, thus bringing him down from a three-match ban to a two-match ban.

The other six players charged have avoided bans with the most severe charge going to York’s Scott Galeano for a tip tackle. That has seen him cop five penalty points and a Grade C charge.

Jarrod O’Connor, Ryan Sutton, Frankie Dearlove, Jordan Lane, and Warrington Wolves reserves’ player Tommy Rhodes are the other players charged.
