The Match Review Panel have met to determine the Super League disciplinary fallout after Round Five of the competition.
It was a Super League round packed full of action on the field but there was little to ride home about from a disciplinary point of view with just one yellow card handed out, going to Sam Tomkins late on in Catalans’ win over Castleford Tigers.
Tomkins, who earned the Man of the Match medal a day before his 36th birthday, was sent to the sin bin for delaying the restart by laying on the tackled player in the 80th minute of the Dragons’ 26-4 win over Castleford.
He had bagged himself a try in a professional performance which he capped off with a professional foul.
Elsewhere, Hull KR maintained their 100% record with a 30-0 win over Leigh Leopards, their rivals Hull FC defeated Wakefield Trinity 16-12 to jump to third and Salford Red Devils finally got off the mark with a win over winless Huddersfield Giants.
Warrington Wolves edged St Helens 14-12 and Wigan fell short 12-10 against Leeds Rhinos with the post-match scuffle involving Harry Newman a potential point that the Super League disciplinary process could look at.
The Super League disciplinary results are now in.
Super League disciplinary sees forward handed two-match ban
Despite very little on field disciplinary action, the Match Review Panel have confirmed a total of nine charges which has also seen one player handed a two-match ban.
That man is Huddersfield Giants’ Oliver Wilson after he was handed a Grade D charge for Head Contact which has earned him 15 penalty points, leading to a two-match ban and a fine.
A Grade D charge is worth 12 points but Wilson has copped 15 meaning the incident caused injury to an opposition player, thus adding a further three penalty points.
Each of Salford Red Devils, Hull FC and Wigan Warriors have seen two players charges although those charges don’t lead to bans.
Catalans and Castleford are the other teams to fall foul of charges meaning that no action was taken against Leeds Rhinos’ Harry Newman despite the post-match scuffle.
