The first full round of disciplinary charges have been brought against Super League sides following Round Three of the Challenge Cup.
The RFL’s Match Review Panel met today to assess the disciplinary actions from the 16 Challenge Cup games, 12 of which saw Super League teams play.
They have now brought their charges which a number of players impacted ahead of Round One of Super League which is set to commence on Thursday night Wigan Warriors host Leigh Leopards.
A new disciplinary system has been introduced for 2025 with the final tweaks officially confirmed last week by the RFL after a laws meeting.
Players will still be handed Grades for their offences, albeit only Grade A to E as opposed Grade A to F, but instead of each Grade carrying a certain punishment they will now carry ‘Penalty Points’.
Penalty Points are accumulated throughout the season and will stay on a player’s record for 12 months with every player starting 2025 on zero points.
As points accumulate, punishments are then handed out with bans started at just 6 points. Full details can be found here.
Prior to this round of Challenge Cup games, just Hull KR’s Eribe Doro and Huddersfield’s Jack Murchie had Penalty Points with the pair on 5 and 3 points respectively.
Super League players learn disciplinary fate as eight players charged
A total of eight players have been charged by the Match Review Panel, however, no player has earned enough penalty points to be banned with 3 points the most handed out.
Eribe Doro will be joined by Mikey Lewis and Tom Davies as two other Robins to accrue penalty points after they both picked up 3 for a Grade B charge in their win over York. Lewis was charged with ‘Striking’ whilst Davies was hit with a ‘Head Contact’ charge.
Hull FC pair Yusuf Aydin and Jack Ashworth both picked up points with Aydin’s Grade A ‘Late Contact’ charge worth one point and Ashworth’s Grade B ‘Contrary Behaviour’ charge worth 3.
Wigan duo Zach Eckersley and Tyler Dupree both earned one point for a ‘Dangerous Throw/Lift’ and ‘Contrary Behaviour’.
The other two Super League players to be hit with disciplinary points were Salford’s Shane Wright and St Helens’ Noah Stephens with both men picking up 3 points.

And it’s started, Wigan players get 1 point and most other players are getting 3 points.
No bias there then by the Lancashire mafia in the RFL.

Wigan players LET OFF LIGHTLY. Typical of disciplinary panel.
