Super League disciplinary as 13 charged and Leeds Rhinos man banned

Red card Super League disciplinary

After Round Seven of Super League, the Match Review panel have ruled and handed down their disciplinary verdict.

Following a week’s hiatus from the competition on account of the Challenge Cup quarter-finals, we were straight back into the Super League action on Thursday night when Salford hosted Leeds Rhinos.

That game saw two of the five yellow cards handed out in Round Seven of Super League, making Leeds Rhinos a team who will have been wary about today’s disciplinary verdict.

The other cards were shown to Hull FC, Castleford Tigers and Huddersfield Giants players whilst the Match Review Panel will have also looked at all the incidents that went unpunished on the field.

With the new disciplinary points system, charges don’t always amount to bans but we’ve seen an increasing number of bans as the season goes on including last week’s two-game ban handed down to Elliott Whitehead after his actions in the Challenge Cup.

The Match Review Panel have now ruled and the disciplinary verdict after Round Seven of Super League is in.

Round Seven Super League disciplinary verdict as 14 players charged

A whopping 14 players have been charged but just one player has been banned with that man being Leeds Rhinos forward Mikolaj Oledzki, one of two Rhinos to be sin binned.

Oledzki’s Grade C charge for Head Contact carries 5 penalty points, which when added to his previous penalty points, move him into the threshold of a one-game ban.

One other player received a Grade C charge and that was Huddersfield’s Sam Hewitt, another player who was sin binned. Hewitt was charged with Other Contrary Behaviour after he appeared to kick out at Leo Darrelatour when the young winger was in the process of scoring.

Due to Hewitt’s previously clean record, he escapes a ban but does get five penalty points on his record (reduced to 2.5 once he pays his fine).

Of the 12 other players, six were hit with Grade B charges and six with Grade A. The Grade B charges carry three penalty points and Grade A just one.

Among the Grade B charges were Keenan Palasia, Shane Wright, George Lawler, Edwin Ipape, Jack Ashworth and Ben Garcia, all of whom are fined.

Matt Whitley, Tyrone May, Alex Mellor, Cade Cust, Jordan Crowther and Jordan Rapana were all handed Grade A charges with the latter being handed a fine as well, on account of his previous penalty points.
